Punjab To Revise Construction Labourers’ Welfare Schemes

The Punjab Government has taken a policy decision to revise all the schemes pertaining to the welfare of construction workers to increase the reach of the scheme.Disclosing this here today Chunni Lal Bhagat, Labour Welfare Minister Punjab said that decision in this regard has been taken in a high level meeting of Punjab Building and other Construction Workers’ Welfare Board, held today. He said that it was observed that the monetary help being provided to the construction labourers’ under the present welfare schemes is meager and was not keeping pace with the rise in the inflation. He said that the government has considered the cause of the construction labourers’ sympathetically and intend to increase the amount of Pension Scheme, Ex gratia Grant and the LTC.pulging the detail Mr. Bhagat said that the Punjab government has been providing ex gratia amount of Rs. 1 lakh in the case of death or 100% handicap, whereas Rs.50 thousand in case of partial handicap and Rs 2000 as LTC at the gap of four year. 

He said that the construction worker having registration with the board since five year has been given a annual pension of Rs. 4000 similarly Rs. 10000 to the worker registered with the board for 20 years or more.The Minister further said that the department has also providing annual scholarship for the children of construction workers studding from class 1 up to the higher education, ranging from Rs. 2000 to 50000. Similarly Shagun of Rs. 21000 is given during the marriage of the daughter of construction worker. The Minister said that the amount given in these welfare schemes is meager as compare to the inflation.Prominent among other who was present in the meeting included Mr. Vishavjeet Khanna, Secretary cum Labour Commissioner Mr. Harbhupinder Singh Nanda and Additional Labour Commissioner Mr. Harish Nayyer.
