The Shiromani Akali Dal General Secretary Mahesh Inder Singh Grewal today described the aborted march by a few dozen workers of the Punjab Youth Congress as ” failed street circus by some politically defeated and dejected elements. Describing the so called protest march as one more “dull chapter in the on-going pathetic Congress comedy” in Punjab, the Akali leader said, ”They are no longer into serious politics and are reduced to enacting such desperate and hollow gimmicks to gain a few moments in media focus. There is nothing more to it than that and everybody knows it.”
In a statement here, Mr Grewal said “the street circus” has further established that the Congress in the state has been reduced to a ‘pajama party’, wasting its energies on non-issues and unable to think up any credible issue of the people to talk about. “Most of the few dozen congressmen who took part in the brief drama had actually come to Chandigarh for a summer picnic, and most of them were seen roaming around the lake in the afternoon. Such is the seriousness of their approach to the issue which they were claiming to highlight.
Talking about the issue on which they chose to agitate, Mr. Grewal said that at least they should pick their issues carefully. The case has already been dealt with and action under the law was being taken against all the accused. So what were they demanding?” Mr Grewal said that it seems no one is in command in Congress. Any serious leader in that party would have stopped these boys from exposing their party to further ridicule especially at a time when Congress party has been completely marginalised by the strong showing of the SAD-BJP government in Punjab.”
