Punjab Government To Provide Compensation To The Victims Of Motor Vehicle And Other Accidents

Punjab Government has formulated a policy for providing emergency medical aid and compensation to the victims of motor vehicle and other accidents. Disclosing this here today official spokesperson of the Punjab Government said that under the scheme, all the persons in the age group of 18 to 60 years of all the families in Punjab whose names appear in the voters list of Punjab or who hold ration card issued by the Food and Supplies Department of Punjab shall be covered except Government employees and income tax payers subject to the condition that the benefit/claim under the scheme will be admissible for only one member of the family.He said that however, in cases where more than one member dies or is injured in the same accident, benefit/claim can be given in respect of all the dead or injured. Benefit of the scheme for death or permanent disability resulting from accident occurring even outside Punjab shall be extended under the scheme.

He said that this decision has been taken by the Punjab Government to address the immediate financial requirements of the bereaved families. 

He said that under this scheme  death/permanent total disability due to accidents like Rail/Road/Air accidents, Riot, Strike and Terrorism, Snake bite, drowning, Poisoning, electrocution, Falling from height, collapse of house/building, Fire, Explosion, Implosion, Murder,  Attack by animals,  Stampede and Suffocation etc, Frost bite, sun burn (loo), lightening, Burn injuries would be covered. He added that death/permanent total disability caused due to occupational hazards like threshing machine industrial machine etc. would also be covered under this scheme. The spokesperson further said that the compensation shall be provided to the nominee/legal heir(s) or the beneficiary, in case the insured/beneficiary suffers death/permanent total disability/ permanent disability would be given Rs. 1.00 Lac in death case, in case of  Permanent Total Disability Rs. 1.00 Lac, in loss of two limbs, two eyes, one limb and one eye Rs. 50,000/-, in loss of one eye or one limb Rs. 25,000/-.The point is further clarified that if wife has already died then compensation goes to dependent children. If dependent children are not there, then amount goes to dependent parents and so on.
