Punjab Chief Minister Mr. Parkash Singh Badal today gave approval to accord the status of Municipal Council to the village panchayat of Nurpur Bedi in district Roopnagar thereby conceding the long pending demand of the local residents of the area. Disclosing this here today a spokesman of the Chief Minister's office said that Mr. Badal cleared the file to this effect this evening. This decision had been taken in the larger public interests to ensure the quick dispensation of public services/utilities to the people of nearby villages on one hand and to percolate the benefits of policies and programmes of the state government aimed at the overall welfare and development of the people on the other. The Chief Minister has also directed the Secretary Local Government to immediately issue a final notification in this regard u/s 4 & 5 of the Municipal Act-1911.
