Majithia Seeks Public Cooperation To Make Transparency Drive In Revenue Department A Success

 Bikram Singh Majithia, Revenue and Rehabilitation Minister Punjab, today sought the total cooperation of people of making the ongoing drive to ensure transparent working of Revenue Department, a grand success. Reviewing the working of Revenue Department in a meeting with Senior Officers, Mr. Majithia said that Deputy Chief Minister Mr. Sukhbir Singh Badal has brought the ambitious project of total computerization of land records at the brim of total fructification and it was our bounden duty to ensure that all citizen should get the benefit of this historical reforms. He said that his first priority would be to ensure total accuracy of record being put on web besides expediting the ongoing computerization of Fard Kendras for its completion within 6 months. He asked Financial Commissioner Revenue to increase the staff in Fard Kendras where there was a waiting period of more than stipulated 15 minutes. Mr. Majithia said that with completion of computerization of land records the farming community would feel a sigh of relief against the harassment meted out by the low level revenue officials besides having a 24 hour access to their revenue records. Seeking the suggestions to make department corruption-free, Mr. Majithia said that his endeavour would be to reduce the discretionary power of Tehsildars and Revenue Authorities as these power were breeding ground for corruption. He said that matching collector rate with market rate without hurting market sentiments, satttellite pictures of all urban localities, plugging the loophole of computer codes were some steps that department would take to usher in an era of transparency and curb corruption. Mr. Majithia exhorted the senior revenue officers to ensure transparent and corruption free revenue administration to make interaction of public with revenue authorities more pleasant. He also directed them for 100 percent computerization of land records within next six months along with special arrangements to check any discrepancy or error.The Minister categorically said that discretion of Tehsildar for registration of land should be minimized as it further leads to corruption. He asked that Patwaris, Kanungos and Tehsildars should be courteous to the public and there should be no harassment to them. He said that the Financial Commissioner Revenue should immediately issue directions to start helpline numbers in every district so that any villager can get any mistake in the land record rectified by bringing it in the notice of revenue authorities. Earlier, Mr. N.S. Kang, Financial Commissioner Revenue gave brief account of working of Revenue department.
