Alarmed by growing factionalism and discord among its leaders ahead of 2014 elections, the Congress High Command in New Delhi has summoned the state Congress Chief Saifuddin Soz to discuss the internal matters of the party.

According to highly placed sources, Soz left for Delhi on Thursday where he is scheduled to meet the AICC Chief Sonia Gandhi to discuss the ongoing crisis in the party amid unabated incidents of mud-slinging by some of the party’s senior leaders and ministers.“The high command is holding consultations with others state congress leaders also to get their feedback on the worsening factionalism and ugly incidents in the party”, the sources told KNS. They said the state congress President was asked to reach New Delhi urgently and cancel all his engagements. Congress General Secretary and incharge J&K affairs Mohan Prakash has spoken to several leaders to get their opinion in view of the party’s concern that the internal rift could weaken the party and cost it dearly in the 2014 Assembly elections, they added.“Prof Soz is scheduled to meet Mrs Gandhi later in the evening where he would apprise the Congress Chief about the issues related to internal matters in the party”, they said adding that Soz would also discuss the present political situation in the state with Sonia Gandhi. The high command will also summon other party leaders for consultations in coming days, the sources claimed.Pertinently, there have been incidents of accusations and counter-accusations between senior ministers - Taj Mohiuddin and Sham Lal Sharma – who have been accusing each other of being involved in PHE and fak drug scan respectively
