Nine Indians among 13 killed in Dubai bus accident

At least nine Indian nationals were among the 13 people killed in Saturday's road accident in the UAE, the Indian consulate in Dubai confirmed Sunday.The accident occurred when their bus rammed into a parked truck near Dubai, The National reported. The bus was carrying 29 workers. While 13 of them were killed on the spot, 16 were injured.Nine of the victims were from India and four from Bangladesh. All 13 were dead by the time paramedics arrived at the scene at around 6.30 a.m. shortly after the accident, the report said.

A spokesman for the Indian consulate in Dubai confirmed that nine Indian nationals had been killed and two injured."The consulate is in touch with the survivors and will provide all necessary assistance to them," the National quoted a spokesman as saying."We will also facilitate the dispatch of the remains of those killed," the spokesman said.The injured were being treated at Rashid Hospital and Al Baraha Hospital in Dubai.The mangled wreckage of the bus had to be cut open to free the victims, police said. The reason for the accident was suspected to be brake failure.According to an earlier report, fifteen Asian workers were killed.
