Member Parliament Mrs. Harsimrat Kaur Badal today urged the women to come forward to bring attitudinal change against women in society as women were not getting honour they deserve in comparison of their achievements in every sphere of life. Addressing an impressive gathering of girl students organised by Doaba Institute of Women for Engineering and Technology to launch ‘Nanhi Chaan Edu-Earn Policy’, the unique initiative for girl students here at Tricity pride, Mrs. Badal pointed out that with their hard work and commitment, women were carving a niche for themselves in every field rather outshining their male counterparts but lamented that their contribution was not being appreciated. 

She said that time has come for women to register their forceful presence for their unparalleled achievements. She appreciated the women institute for launching new Edu-Earn policy, first ever in the country, in which the girl students could earn from Rs. 2500 to Rs. 25000 per month while getting their regular educations. She said that this initiative would boost the confidence of girl students for opting vocational courses as they could meet their education expenses at their own. 

She said that the Punjab Government has made budgetary provision to provide Rs. 30000 annual scholarship to girl students belonging to poor families opting for professional courses. She said that the Punjab Government was fully committed for creating maximum job opportunities for the youngsters and had provided around 1.5 lakh jobs to the youth.In an informal interaction with media persons, Mrs. Badal said that the passing of Anti Rape Bill in Lok Sabha was a humble beginning and underlined the need to implement the Act effectively to instill confidence and sense of security amongst the girl students and working women. Giving the details about crime against women, the Member Parliament informed that a woman was being maltreated in every 15 minutes, a rape in every 20 minutes and abduction of a lady in every half hour in our country and it was matter of shame for all of us. She said that the major reason for female foeticide was ever increasing menace of social evil of dowry. 

She said that time has come for girls to unite against female foeticide and dowry as we can check these menaces with our collective efforts. On this occasion students of the institute besides the members of faculty and management committee took an oath against the menaces of female foeticide and dowry and presented a jointly signed undertaking to the Member Parliament. The Students of institute also staged a drama against female foeticide and dowry, the social evils affecting our lives.

Prominent amongst others, who were present on the occasion included Mr. Varun Roozam, Deputy Commissioner SAS Nagar, Mrs. Tanu Kashyap, Deputy Commissioner Shaheed Bhagat Singh Nagar, Dr. Harshinder Kaur, Deputy Medical Superintendent Government Rajindra Hospital, Dr. Kiran, Assistant Professor, Punjabi University Patiala, Mr. Manjit Singh Executive Chairman Doaba Group of Colleges, Bibi Parkash Kaur, Founder of Unique Home Jalandhar, Mrs. Dhanpreet Kaur, SSP SBS Nagar and Mr. Gurpreet Singh Bhullar, SSP SAS Nagar.
