Former Chief Minister and Congress candidate from Amritsar Capt Amarinder Singh wound up his election campaign at a grand note with over one lakh people joining his road-show that passed through various places in the city on the last day of the campaigning today.Accompanied by all the local leaders including the MLAs, ex-MLAs, sitting and former councillors and prominent party workers, Capt Amarinder moved in an open vehicle. He was showered with flower petals on the way. Some people offered soft drinks, while others offered fruits and flowers and everybody wished him good luck.
On the way he was stopped by several youngsters who got atop his vehicle to get their photographs clicked with him. At several places drivers were seen stopping their vehicles to waive and wish to Capt Amarinder which he acknowledged affectionately and respectfully.At one place a Granthi stopped him for a while and offered ardas for his victory. “I felt immense sense of gratitude towards the Granthi ji who did not even identify himself”, he later told some reporters.During informal conversation along the road, Capt Amarinder said, he was touched and overwhelmed with the love and affection showered by the people of Amritsar. “It was quite unprecedented and pleasantly surprising”, he said, adding, “I felt blessed with the entire rank and file of the Congress rallying behind the party”.
He said, he in particular felt highly touched and grateful to senior Congress leader Mr RL Bhatia who not only stood by him but attended some of the programmes despite his advanced age. He said, same was the case with other party workers and leaders whether they were senior or junior in the hierarchy. “Much more than that I am touched by the love of the common workers whose contribution was indeed selfless”, he remarked.Among those who accompanied him today during his road-show included Rana Gurjeet Singh, OP Soni, Dr Raj Kumar Verka, Jugal Kishore Sharma, Jasbir Dimpa, Harjinder Thekedar, Sunil Dutti, Gurjeet Aujla, Karamjit Singh Rintu, Ashwani Pappu, Rajeev Bhagat and others.
