The Food SafetyCommissionerate has decided to rope in the MILKFED manpower to check adulteration in Milk and Milk Products (M&MPs), informed KS Pannu, Commissioner Food and Drug Administration Punjab. He said under Tandrust Punjab Mission, State Government is leaving no stone unturned for providing quality Milk and Milk Products to the people. Moving ahead on this agenda, it has been decided to take assistance from the Punjab Milk Producers Federation & Co-operative Society (MILKFED) which produces, processes and sells milk and milk products through its wide network of 9 Milk Plants and 6500 village level Milk Co-operative Societies in the State.Pannu said that it is most unfortunate that despite daily milk production in the State being nearly 325 lac litres per day, which is highest per person in the country, some unscrupulous elements resort to milk adulteration by adding water, vanaspati oil and the like. In order to tighten the noose around such people, it has been communicated to MILKFED to direct its staff to report milk adulteration if any and take immediate appropriate action in a joint operation with district Food Safety Officials. Even, establishing a dedicated cell in MILKFED at State Level has been suggested so that information may be acquired from all districts and effective action may be taken from the Headquarter Level. He hoped that in wake of the ensuing festival season, this initiative will go a long way in checking M&MP adulteration.
