State of Punjab maintains strongest check in the country on adulterated food articles with sampling to the tune of over a thousand samples a month, claims KS Pannu, Commissioner Food and Drug Administration Punjab. Barring a couple of States having a huge geographical area, sampling and analysis of the collected samples is highest in the State as per the Statistics of Government of India, said he.The ‘Performance Details of States and UTs in Achieving the Targets of Sample Collection and Testing’, as compiled and published by GoI show that 11920 samples were collected and analysed during 2018-19 in Punjab. It is with the determination at the level of Chief Minister Office, Punjab that under Tandrust Punjab Mission aimed at providing quality food and environment to the people, this herculean task has been materialized, said he. The enormity of the work done under Tandrust Punjab Mission can be realised by the fact that during 2016-17 the number of samples collected and analysed was 4431 and 4054 respectively.It is pertinent to know that hardly any State/UT in the country has touched the 10,000 figure in sample collection and analysis. The State of Tamil Nadu though managed to supersede Punjab in sample collection with 14065 samples but lags far behind in analysis with materializing analysis of only 5730 samples in 2018-19.
