Punjab Water Resources Minister Sukhbinder Singh Sarkaria today reviewed the on-going plugging of breaches work and directed the officers of water resources department to complete the breaches in the district at the earliest.The minister who inspected the ongoing work at Dhussi Bandh on the river Sutlej said that this work must be carried at the war footing to ensure that the breach was plugged at the earliest. He said that keeping in view, the immense significance of this work any sort of callousness was intolerable and undesirable.Mr Sarkaria said that he would personally monitor this work on day to day basis to ensure its timely completion in the larger public interest.He said that the work of plugging the breaches in Phillaur sub-division would be completed shortly and for the breaches in Shahkot sub-division, Army has already been called to plug the 500-ft wide breach at Jania Chahal village. Likewise, he said that for other breaches also, the officers of water resources department have already made a concrete strategy.Mr Sarkaria said that the state government led by Punjab Chief Minister Capt Amarinder Singh is committed to provide relief to the flood ravaged villages of the district.On the occasion, MLA Mr Hardev Singh Laddi briefed the minister about the whopping loss of people due to these breaches. He also urged the minister to expedite the work on the project.
