Nityanand Rai Chaired A High Level Meeting To Review The Current Flood Situation In The Country

On the directions of Union Minister of Home Affairs  Amit Shah, Minister of State for Home affairs Nityanand Rai today chaired a high level meeting to review the current flood situation in different parts of the country and the preparedness of Central Ministries / Agencies concerned to deal with the situation.India Metrological Department (IMD) informed that during the last 2 days, Maharashtra, Kerala and Karnataka have got excess rain fall with extremely heavy down pour. In addition, Gujarat, West Madhya Pradesh and East Rajasthan are also expected to receive heavy rainfall in the next 24 hours. DG, NDRF apprised that 83 NDRF teams have been positioned in vulnerable areas of flood affected four states along with all necessary equipments. These teams are in addition to the 173 teams of army, navy, air force and coast guard. Control Rooms in MHA, NDRF, IMD and CWC are keeping close watch on the situation on 24*7 basis. They have, thus far, evacuated over 82,000 people to safer places and rescued of 2325 people.After the review, Minister of State for Home Affairs Shri Nityanand Rai directed the senior officers to take every possible measure to deal with the situation arising out of South-West Monsoon in the concerned states and to extend all necessary assistance to the flood affected states. NDRF, MoD and other agencies involved in the rescue and relief operations have assured that requests from concerned states are being fulfilled on a real-time basis.During the meeting, Home Secretary, DG, NDRF, Member Secretary NDMA, senior officers from Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA), Ministry of Defence, Central Water Commission (CWC) and Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) were present.Union Home Minister is continuously monitoring the situation and instructing concerned officials to take necessary actions.
