Prof Sikandar Kumar, Vice-Chancellor of Himachal Pradesh University called on Governor Kalraj Mishra at Raj Bhavan, today and apprised him about various activities and future plans related to the University.On the occasion, the Governor said that Himachal Pradesh University has achieved many milestones in the field of higher education, and a number of students passed out from this University are serving at various top levels throughout the country. He advised him that new construction should be done in the campus and other places in a systematic manner. He said that the possibilities of constructing more hostels, educational blocks and teacher and non-teacher residential premises in the University should be explored.Shri Kalraj Mishra said that to maintain the image of the University, work should be done for improving the ranking in the National Assessment and Accreditation Council (NAC) and National Institutional Framework (NIRF). Concrete steps should be taken to keep the campus clean so that the message of cleanliness could be percolating from the university and suggested that new academic departments should be opened from the next academic session, with special emphasis on qualitative and employment-oriented education, he added. He directed to provide Wi-Fi facilities in the campus.
He stressed on promoting sports activities in a big way at the University level and directed that emphasis should be laid on proper infrastructure development to encourage students to sports.He said that such programmes and conferences should be organized at the University level, which communicates the message of nationalism in the students and to make important contributions for the progress of the country.The Vice Chancellor informed that efforts were being made to develop the University as Best Centre of Excellence of higher education in the country and concerted efforts were also being made to make the students studying here more effective from teaching to other facilities.Prof Sikandar said that the maximum work of the University has been started through online (ERP) and for the first time, B.Ed. counselling has been done online. In addition, the task of depositing fees has also been made cashless and the fees were being deposited online. He said that three new courses in the University Institute of Information and Technology (UIIT), including Civil, Electrical, Electronic and Communication Engineering were being started from this session and the posts of 39 professors and 16 non-teaching staff posts have also been approved. He said that the land of University Institute of Legal Studies (UILS), University College of Business School (UCBS), Department of Evening Studies (DES) has been named after the University with the help of state government and district administration.
