Further tightening the noose around the drug peddlers to make Punjab a drug free state, Counter-Intelligence Wing Jalandhar has busted an inter-state drug racket of heroin smuggling and confiscated One-kilogram heroin from Sultanpur Lodhi area of Kapurthala district by arresting two drug smugglers. The accused have been identified as Gurvinder Singh of village Noorpur Hakima in Dharamkot Moga and his associate Ranjit Singh, resident of Ward no 01 Mehatpur in Jalandhar.In a press release, AIG Counter Intelligence Jalandhar Mr. Harkamalpreet Singh Khakh said that Counter- Intelligence Wing received a tip-off that Gurvinder Singh who has links with Delhi based Nigerian smugglers and today, he was procuring a big heroin consignment in a Tata sumo car number (PB29-P8895) with his one associate Ranjit Singh if the proper search is conducted near Sherpur Dona to Talwandi Madho area, they can be apprehended with drug. Acting swiftly, Mr. Khakh shared this information with SSP Kapurthala Mr Satinder Singh, and a joint team of Counter Intelligence Wing and a team of Sultanpur Lodhi police station was set up and moved to search the area to seize the consignment along with smugglers. “Following the instructions, the police party successfully intercepted the Tata sumo car in the area and arrested two of them 

During frisking, police teams recovered One Kilogram heroin from their possession which was hidden in the Sumo”, AIG added.A case under sections of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act, 1985 has been registered against the smugglers at Sultanpur Lodhi Police station.  “Preliminary interrogation of the arrested accused revealed that both of them have been involved in the illegal trade of drug smuggling from the past few years. They are already facing cases of drug smuggling and were lodged in jails for these cases”, said Mr. Khakh.He further added that Gurwinder had come out of jail on bail in April this year, while his associate Ranjit got bail in December 2018. In jails, they met the Nigerian smugglers and after being released from jails, they contacted Nigerian Victor, who is lodged in Kapurthala Jail in drug case via mobile phone and started trafficking heroin from Delhi to Punjab, on the behest of Nigerian smuggler Victor.Mr. Khakh said a separate case in this regard has been registered against Victor under Sections of The Prisons Act, 1894 as two mobile phones and one Sim card have also been recovered from him. AIG told that the arrested smugglers would be produced before the magistrate and their police remand will be sought to in-depth investigate in the case and to nab other members of this racket. AIG said that kingpin of racket Victor would also be arrested in this NDPS Act case, after completing the legal formalities and would be taken on police remand. Mr. Khakh told further that for busting a complete network of this module in the national capital, entire information has been shared with the STF for the better coordination.
