Keeping the legacy intact, Chandigarh Group of Colleges has again been ranked 7th pan India for filing 58 Patents in a single year by the Indian Patent Office which is administered by Office of the Controller General of Patents, Designs, Trademarks and Geographical Indications (CGPDTM), Government of India. The college has made a mark by filing over 150-plus patents till now with more in the pipeline. CGC has been featured under the category of Top 10 Indian Applicants for patents from Institutes and Universities in the 46th Annual Report 2017-18 released by CGPDTM. The list contains 1300 total patents filed by the premier public and private institutions. CGC is sharing the same position with the Indian Institute of Science by filing exactly the same number of patents this year as compared to the last year which was 30 in number. Indian Institute of Technology (collective) has occupied the first position in the same category. Overall, the government statistics reveal that number of applications for patents filed in 2017-18 was 47,854 showing an increase of 5.3 % in filing, which were 45,444 in 2016-17.

The top five patents filed by CGC include, A Biometric Wheelchair Control System, Fault Detection System for Railway Tracks, Plant Growth Promoting Composition and Process Thereof, Interactive Education System and Method and System for Establishing Secured Data Communication Network. The patents have been filed by students from the field of Electronics, Mechanical, Computer Science, IT, Biotechnology and othersSatnam Singh Sandhu, Chairman CGC Landran and Rashpal Singh Dhaliwal, President, CGC Landran congratulated the faculty and students on this achievement. They said, “As the technical advancements are growing leaps and bounds, it becomes our utmost responsibility to set up infrastructure which is innovation oriented. Thus, the Innovation and Entrepreneurship Development Cell which has been set up at CGC in collaboration with the  Department  of  Science  &  Technology,  Government  of  India,  is a step to promote innovation and  entrepreneurship  amongst students”.
