Member of Parliament from Jalandhar Chaudhary Santokh Singh today said that concerted efforts would be made to make Jalandhar a completely ‘water logging’ free city before the advent of monsoon season next year.Lok Sabha MP, along with Mayor Municipal Corporation Mr. Jagdish Raj Raja and Commissioner Municipal Corporation Jalandhar Mr. Diperva Lakra, inspected the water logged localities of the city after the rain showers. Expressing concern over the water logging in the city, he said that this causes major inconvenience to the general public which needs to be avoided. Chaudhary Santokh Singh said that all out efforts would be made to ensure that no water logging takes place after rains by next year. The Lok Sabha MP bemoaned that the previous SAD-BJP government in the city paid no heed towards this vex issue. However, he said that under the visionary and dynamic leadership of Punjab Chief Minister Captain Amarinder Singh now a major thrust was being laid to solve this problem. 

Chaudhary Santokh Singh said that in a major development a project of laying of more than seven kilometers long Storm Drainage Network in ABD area to solve the chronic problem of water logging at 120 feetroad, Babu Jag Jeevan Ram Chowk, Babrik Chowk, Football Chowk and Basti Adda Chowk was already in the pipeline.The Lok Sabha MP said that this work would be done in the Smart City Project to ensure that this problem was solved at the earliest. Chaudhary Santokh Singh said that he would personally raise this matter with the state and Union government for laying of storm water sewerage in other parts of city besides exploring remedy of this problem through other means at the earliest. Reiterating the firm commitment of the state government to ensure holistic development of city, he said that every promise made to people would be fulfilled by them.Meanwhile, the Commissioner of Municipal Corporation Mr. Diperva Lakra issued stern directions to the civic body officials to pump out the water from low lying areas of the city. Mr. Lakra personally supervised the operations after pumping in the staff for this cause.
