With an aim to improve the sex ratio in the district, the Moga district administration on Friday, announced a reward of Rs 1 lakh for whistleblowers and pregnant women, who act as decoys to help in cracking down on centres conducting illegal sex determination tests.Divulging the details, Deputy Commissioner (DC) Moga Sandeep Hans said that anybody notices such illegal sex-determination centre running in the district can inform the district administration by dialling— 98557-28128— this number and the name of the informer or the decoy will be kept confidential. However, if the raid remains unsuccessful, there will be no reward for the informer, he said.Deputy Commissioner accompanied by Additional Deputy Commissioner (ADC Development) Rajinder Batra was presiding over the monthly task force meeting to review the works under the Beti Bachao, Beti Padhao scheme in the district. During the meeting, Assistant Commissioner General Lal Vishwas Bains, Sub-Divisional Magistrates (SDMs) including Dr Mandeep Kaur (Nihal Singh Wala) and Swaranjit Kaur (Baghapurana) and District Programme Officer (DPO) Gurcharan Singh were present.

As per the information, hospitals, nursing homes and diagnostic centres are not allowed to determine and disclose the gender of the foetus to the parents under the Pre-Conception, Pre-Natal Diagnostics Technique (PC-PNDT) Act.Deputy Commissioner also asked the DPO and Health authorities to maximum publicise this reward scheme by installing hoardings, banner and other methods in the district that public can help the district administration to trap such fraudulent activities in the district. He also told the health officials to intensify the monitoring system of Ultra Sound and Scanning centres.Deputy Commissioner said that though this is a very sensitive topic, there is a need to sensitise children, especially girls, about the good and bad touch to prevent any kind of molestation or any other damage.In the meeting, Chief Judicial Magistrate-cum-Secretary District Legal Service Authority Bagicha Singh, deputy superintendent of police (DSP) Sukhwinder Singh,  deputy DEO (secondary) Pargat Singh, District Family Planning and Welfare Officer Dr Rupinder Kaur, PNDT Coordinator Om Parkash among other officials were present.
