Animal Husbandry Department Covers 55-Percent Digital Livestock Census In Jalandhar

The deputy commissioner Varinder Kumar Sharma said that the animal husbandry department has covered 55 percent livestock census digitally by using tablet computers in the Jalandhar.Mr. Sharma along with additional deputy commissioner (development) Mr. Kulwant Singh said that this is for the first time that livestock census is being conducted digitally for data collection according to breeds and other characteristics of livestock by the department.He said that the district has around 461635 residences according to the 2011 census and are being covered under the supervision of veterinary doctors of the animal husbandry along with an extensive branch of enumerators who have been given training of adding details in the tablet computers in this livestock census.He said that enumerators are covering various species of animals including Cattle, Buffalo, Dog, Sheep, Goat, Pig, Horse, Pony, Mule, Donkey Camel, Dog, Rabbit, elephant, poultry birds cock, hen Duck, Emu, turkeys and others being kept by the households, household enterprises/non-household enterprises and institutions.

The deputy commissioner told that the district has around 4-lakh cattle as per the previous cattle census held in 2012. He said that mobile application software has already been developed by National Informatics Centre (NIC) for collecting transferring the data online.Mr. Sharma said that the livestock census will be completed by July 16 by the department.Earlier, a team of animal husbandry initiated the livestock census in ward-38 from the house of deputy commissioner where the team members collected the details of two cows of Sahiwal breed. On the occasion, Animal Husbandry department’s Deputy Director Dr. Mahinder Pal, Senior Veterinary Officer Dr. Baljeet Singh Ghumman, District Nodal Officer for Cattle Census Dr. Karandeep Singh Sangha, Dr. Sarwan Singh Kataria, Enumerator Veterinary inspector Mr. Ashok Kumar and others were present.
