Finish works in illegal colonies in 5 months : Arvind Kejriwal

Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal has asked officials to complete development works in unauthorised colonies within five months, here on Saturday.He said this after reviewing development works at a meeting.Kejriwal would monitor the development works on a weekly basis and has sought weekly reports on the progress, the government said in a statement.The works included construction of roads, drains, lanes and laying of sewer lines.Development works are continuing in 781 unauthorised colonies, spread across 20 Assemblies constituencies, like Burari, Matiala, Vikaspuri, Badli, Mundka, Kirari, Nangloi, Uttam Nagar, Najafgarh, Sangam Vihar, Okhla, Badarpur, Deoli, Rohtas Nagar, Gokulpuri, Bijwasan, Chattarpur, Karawal Nagar and Patparganj.At the meeting, the Chief Minister was informed that the work was stopped because of the election code of conduct during the Lok Sabha polls.Stating that residents of these colonies have the right to lead their lives with dignity, Kejriwal said, "The Delhi government has made a provision of Rs 1,500 crore in the budget for the development of these colonies."Meanwhile, during the day, the Chief Minister also held a review meeting over water problems in the Malviya Nagar Assembly constituency."We should augment supply of water in all ways possible, take all steps required for the same. No colony should face a problem of water, take all measures to ensure proper water supply," said the Chief Minister.Kejriwal was informed that more than 100 tube-wells were non-functional in the area.He ordered that they should be restarted with immediate effect."It will solve the problem of water for the people in the Malviya Nagar constituency to a great extent, please restart them as soon as possible," directed the Chief Minister.Kejriwal directed the DJB officials to make the process of getting water connections as simple and easy as possible."Providing water to the people is our duty. We should not have any complex rules for getting new water connections. We must make it as simple as possible. Please work it out and make it easy for the common people of Delhi to get new water connections," Kejriwal said.
