Commissioner of Police Gurpreet Singh Bhullar has issued strict directives to the field officers to step up their crackdown on drug smugglers, making it clear them that they would be held accountable for any activity of drugs smuggling in their areas.The directives were issued by the Commissioner of Police, who was accompanied by AIG STF Mr Gurvinder Singh, during a meeting of all additional deputy commissioners of police (ADCPs) and Assistant Commissioners of Police (ACPs) of the commissionerate police at police lines. The officers from the Special Task Force (STF) and Counter Intelligence Wing were also present in the meeting. The meeting was convened by the Commissioner of Police to review drive against drug smugglers.Mr. Bhullar issued stringent instructions for all field officers to ensure that supply lines of drugs in their respective areas are completely plugged out. Reiterating firm commitment of the state government and Director General of Police Mr Dinkar Gupta to wipe out scourge of drugs from state, he warned the officers against any complacency on the issue.

He told the officers in unequivocal terms that the field officers at various levels will be held accountable for any activity of drug smuggling in their respective areas.He ordered all field officers to carry out systematic and detailed investigations into drug cases so that this menace can be completely wiped out.Mr. Bhullar further asked them to identify habitual offenders of drug cases and to initiate proceedings of preventive action as per laws against them. He also asked them to launch vigorous publicity campaigns against drugs by involving NGOs, members of the civil society, Panchayats, educational institutions, etc., besides proactively engaging with youths to check the menace of drug abuse.The Commissioner of Police also ordered the officers to take all possible steps to check the activities of the gangsters in an effective manner and pursue strict legal action against them.He said that all GO’s rank officers will give him report daily in the evening regarding the action against the drug peddlers and told they must make concentrated field visits regularly in their respective areas to build the trust with the people in this drive. On the occasion, Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCPs) Mr. Parambir Singh Parmar, Mr. Gurmeet Singh, AIG STF Mr. Gurwinder Singh Sandhu and others were present.
