Deputy Commissioner Manpreet Singh Chhatwal today announced that awareness campaign to reduce 'death rate in road accidents' in district Fazilka will be launched soon. He was addressing a gathering during district level function to mark the World Red Cross Day organized by District Red Cross Society, Fazilka. Additional Deputy Commissioner (General) Dr. R.P. Singh was also present on the occasion.The Chairman of the District Red Cross Society and the Chief Guest of the function, Mr. Chhatwal said that awareness of the laws for 'passer-by helpers' is most important to further save the lives of injured of road accidents. "Despite the favourable laws, life-savers or general public hesitate to help the injured of the accidents fearing harassment," he said adding that to shun this trend, district administration will initiate awareness campaign on war footing from next month with the help of legal experts so that people will be educated and motivated to help the injured of road accidents.Mr. Chhatwal further said that help in emergency situations can save a life of a needy person and people should come forward to help the victims of the accidents, which is need of the hour. "There are many established laws in favour of such savers, but due to lack of awareness of these laws, death rate is increasing in road accidents in India. Hence, the district administration is planning to launch awareness campaign for the dissemination of such laws", he said.Appreciating the schemes of the District Red Cross Society, he said that everyone, who looks to the Red Cross for help, gets as per his/her need from this institution.

He further apprised that the Red Cross has given assistance of Rs.13,93,688 for treatment and medicines to the needy patients during 2018-19, While 'Saadi Rosai' is providing balanced food at cheapest rate of Rs.10 per person and till date more than 2,49,422 people have taken advantage.Deputy Commissioner announced that draft to expand 'Saadi Rasoi' to Jalalabad and Abohar is on the anvil and a special school van to ferry students of Deaf and Mute Paryas school, Abohar will also be provided within next two months by the Red Cross Society.On this occasion, Mr. Chhatwal honoured 24 personalities associated with Red Cross Society, which included; Mr. Sarabjit Singh Dhillon, President, Retired Officers Association, social activist Mr. Amar Chand Bhatheja, Mr. Surinder Thakral, President, Jyoti B.Ed College, Fazilka and God Gifted Society, Mr. Surinder Ahuja, President, Lala Munshi Ram Aggarwal Trust, Mr. Girdhari Lal Aggarwal, blood donor Mr. Gurcharan Taneja and Mr. Khandan Singh, trader Mr. Amit Kumar, Legal Adviser Advocate Rajinder Pal Chuchra, Dr. Renu Dhuria, Focal Person for SERV and Principal Mr. Ravi Kant Doda, First Aid Lecturer Mr. Tilak Raj Chugh, Red Cross patron Mahant Puneet Giri, social activist Mr. Sanjeev Bansal, Mr. Naresh Juneja, Journalist Mr. Rakesh Nagpal and Mr. Praful Nagpal, In-charge Paryas School Mrs. Sandeep Kaur and teacher Mr. Manoj Kumar, Mr. Shashi Kant, President, Social Welfare Society, Social activist Mr. B.L Sikka, Mr. Sandeep Kumar PA, Civil Surgeon Mr. Devinder Bhukkal, District Child Protection Officer, owners of Gas Agencies and Commission agents.Pre-nursery students Vandana, Saloni, Neha, Rupa, Jasneet and Arshdeep of Deaf and Mute Paryas School, Abohar presented dance activity and got huge applause.
