Former Chief Minister and Congress candidate from Amritsar Capt Amarinder Singh today told the BJP leader Narendra Modi that the home grown cheap synthetic drugs were more dangerous and devastating than, his colourfully coined term, narco-terrorism.Addressing a press conference here today, Capt Amarinder said, it was looking quite paradoxical that Modi was delivering his “sermon” on narco-terrorism with Bikram Majithia, the kingpin of drug trafficking in Punjab on his side. Those present on the occasion included Surjit Singh Kohli, the brother of the Prime Minister Dr Manmohan Singh, OP Soni, Raj Kumar Verma, Surinder Singla, Bir Devinder Singh, Gurjeet Aujla and Ashwani Kumar Pappu. He wondered how embarrassed Modi would feel once he gets to know that when he was comparing the drug trafficking with terrorism, his Punjab counterpart, who was sitting on the dais had suggested legalising of the drug trade in Punjab just two days before. The former Chief Minister asked Modi as why was it that only Punjab was affected by the drugs smuggled from outside while as there are other border states like Jammu and Kashmir, Rajasthan and Gujarat which also have a long border with Pakistan. He asked, “why the drugs don’t flow into those states?”He said, although the borders were completely sealed but still some parts of drugs were getting smuggled into India. He pointed out, large haul of drugs was regularly seized along the border. However, Capt Amarinder clarified, in Punjab the problem was caused by the synthetic drugs manufactured within the state which were cheap and easily available and very dangerous killing the person in no time.“And it was in this trade Majithia was involved and had been named by the enforcement directorate in challan presented in a court related to the case of dismissed DSP Jagdish Bhola”, he clarified, while adding, “Modi was actually talking in air”.

Baap-Bete ki Sarkar

Lashing out at Narendra Modi for his personal attacks on Ms Sonia Gandhi and her daughter Ms Priyanka Gandhi by frequently referring to “Ma-Beti” ki sarkar, he asked, “is this the kind of respect he accords to the women in the country, particularly the mothers and daughters”. At the same time, he reminded Modi that he was making this shameless and senseless statement at a place which had been looted and robbed by Baap-Bete ki sarkar (of Parkash Singh Badal and Sukhbir Badal)

Gujarat farmers

Capt Amarinder recalled that when Modi came to Punjab for the first time to Jagaraon on February 23 he had promised that no Punjabi farmer will be disturbed from Punjab. He said, two months have already passed and nothing has been done. He lashed out at Badal for timidly keeping quiet on this crucial issue lest it annoyed his new boss. He said, there was a huge gap between what Modi preached and what he practised.
