Former Punjab Chief Minister and Congress candidate from Amritsar Capt Amarinder Singh has written to the Akal Takhat Jathedar urging him to summon Bikram Majithia for his blasphemous act of distorting tenth Guru’sshalok. He has also written to the Chief Election Commissioner of India seeking to ban Majithia from campaigning along the same lines as it did with Amit Shah and Azam Khan for provocative act that has hurt the religious sentiments of millions and millions of people across the globe.Addressing a press conference here today, Capt Amarinder said, the shalok is also the prayer of the Sikh regiment which he (Capt Amarinder) belonged to.Calling upon the Akal Takhat to take immediate action against Majithia, the former Chief Minister said, it was important lest some people like Majithia think that they can do anything and get away with it.

He said, it was up to the Akal Takhat Jathedar to take action. Asked what he will do if the Jathedar did not take any action, he said, it was for the community to decide as how the Sikh institutions were tried to be weakened by the Badals.Replying to a question, the former Chief Minister agreed that the Badals will definitely try to protect Majithia for which the community has to take a call.Referring to the complaint made to the CEC, Capt Amarinder said, the Election Commission of India must go by its recent precedent by which it barred Amit Shah and Azam Khan from campaigning. “Majithia’s crime is no less and he must be held accountable for that”, he asserted, while hoping a similar action will be taken against him (Majithia) also.
