Terming Modi led NDA Government as “Anti-Dalit, Anti-poor and Anti-Farmer”, Congress Candidate from Jalandhar LS seat, Chaudhary Santokh Singh today alleged that if voted back to power, BJP would abolish the reservation system in the country.“Modi will implement the hidden agenda of RSS to amend Dr B R Ambedkar’s constitution to abolish reservation system in the country, which was already exposed during Bihar assembly polls and people of Bihar gave BJP a befitting reply for the same in the form of humiliating defeat in the state”, Chaudhary said while addressing a massive gathering at Nurmahal in Nakodar assembly segment.Accompanied by Senior Congress leader Jagbir Brar, Chaudhary cautioned the gathering and appealed them for not to divide the anti-Modi votes by casting their votes in favor of Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP), which is virtually a “Non-performer” and “B” team of SAD-BJP in Punjab.“You all know that BSP and SAD are always hand in gloves to make a cut in the Congress’ vote bank, the same practice is being repeated this time too”, Chaudhary alleged.Former MLA Jagbir Brar said that anti-BJP wave has already gained momentum in the entire country and on May 19 (Last phase of Polling), people of Punjab would put the last nail in the “Coffin” of Modi Government to elect Congress government in the country.Prominent among others present on the dais include senior Congress leader Dr Navjot Singh Dahiya and Block Samiti President Baljit Singh Johal.Chaudhary rolled out the Congress promises in the Poll Manifesto and explained about the dream scheme of Minimum Income Guarantee, in which Rs 72,000 per annum income would be guaranteed to every poor. He revealed that Congress has promised a holistic agenda of affirmative action for SCs, STs, and OBCs who constitute a little more than 75 percent of the population. Congress has assured to set up an Equal Opportunities Commission, which will recommend affirmative action strategies and policies to achieve equality and equity in education, employment and in economic opportunities, he added.
He said that, if voted to power Congress would fill all backlog vacancies reserved for SCs, STs, and OBCs in government, semi-government and central public sector organizations within 12 months.Congress promises to amend the Constitution to provide for reservation in promotion posts for SCs, STs, and OBCs, he said adding that special attention will be paid to the educational and health needs of the Scheduled Tribes.“Congress promises to pass a law to provide for reservation for SCs, STs, and OBCs in private higher education institutions”, Congress candidate said.Pointing out on the “criminal and callous” attitude of the SAD on the gruesome incident of sacrileges and police firing in which four youth were killed in Nakodar in 1986, Chaudhary said even SAD Candidate Charanjit Singh Atwal also passed the buck to his party as far as allegation of “hushing up” the report of Special Investigation Team (SIT) on the incident of 1986 at Nakodar when four youth were killed in police firing during their protest against the sacrilege of Guru Granth Saheb in the area.Atwal, in an attempt to go away from the allegation of his role in hush up the SIT report, yesterday said he was the Speaker of the Vidhan Sabha in 2001 when the report of Justice Gurnam Singh on the Nakodar 1986 killings was tabled, but said it was the then Government (SAD-BJP), which was responsible for hushing up the SIT report, by not taking any action on the report.“It is quite surprising that president of the panthic party SAD, which claims to be champion of the religious issues, does not remember the gruesome acts of sacrilege and police firing in which four innocent youth were killed”, Congress Candidate said. How it is possible that even as the issue related to the alleged extra-judicial killings of four youths in Nakodar in 1986 is being debated for a long time and has often made headlines in media reports, SAD chief Sukhbir Singh Badal chose to get away with it saying that he had no knowledge about the incident? Chaudhary quipped.Claiming that the SAD would be vanished from the Punjab politics after ensuing Lok Sabha Polls, as it would not win even a single seat, Chaudhary said vowing that SAD has forfeited its moral right to term itself as “Panthic Party”.“The real anti-panth face of Badals has already been exposed before the Sikhs, especially after their shoddy role in the sacrilege incidents and firing incidents on the peaceful Sikh protesters in which two innocent youth were killed, during their regime” Chaudhary added.
