Deputy Commissoner Jalandhar Varinder Kumar Sharma today lauded the role played by NGOs in ensuring access of quality education to the underprivileged and needy students of the society.Addressing the gathering during a function organized by NGO Sri Guru Nanak Sewa Society here at the Red Cross Bhawan to distribute book, notebooks and other accessories to needy students, the Deputy Commissioner said that NGOs were playing a key role in enabling the students from underprivileged strata to avail quality education. He said that this was a great philanthropic work which must be lauded by one and all. Mr. Sharma assured fulsome support and cooperation to the NGOs from the district administration for such noble cause.The Deputy Commissioner said that it was heartening to learn that the NGO was not only providing free book and notebooks to the students but also giving them cheques for their fees. He said that this was a landmark initiative that would help in shaping the destiny of the students in the right direction. Mr. Sharma said that the quality education attained by the students would open new vistas of career for them which would ensure their bright future. The Deputy Commissioner called upon the students to adopt a focus and dedicated approach in their studies, which he said would be instrumental in their comprehensive personality development. Mr. Sharma said that it would also ensure that the youth could compete with their peers across the globe. He said that it was the need of the hour for carving out a strong and progressive India.On the occasion Additional Deputy Commissioner Mr. Jasbir Singh, District Guidance Counselor Mr. Surjit Lal, Director RUDSET Mr. Jagdish Kumar, former Director Doordarshan Jalandhar Mr. Om Gauri Dutt Sharma, Mr. Ashok Sahota, Dr GS Chabra and others were also present.
