To motivate district residents to actively participate in the upcoming parliamentary elections on May 19, District Elections Officer-cum-Deputy Commissioner Barnala Mr. Tej Partap Singh Phoolka lead the ‘Marathon for Voter Awareness’ here from Baba Kala Mehar Sports Stadium. Along with DC, District and Sessions Judge Mr. Virender Aggarwal, SSP Harjit Singh, ADC Ruhee Dugg, SDM Sandeep Kumar and many other officers also completed the race events to inspire the voters of Barnala district.DC Tej Partap Singh Phoolka said that district administration Barnala and Department of Sports,Punjab has jointly organized the marathon to encourage the voters stay aware about democratic system and their health as well. He appealed the voters of Barnala district to actively participate in the biggest festival of the state on May 19 and cast their vote without any fear.Mr. Phoolka said that for the first time, the Election Commission of India (ECI) has introduced the VVPAT machines along with electronic voting machines (EVMs) in all the parliamentary constituencies of the nation. He added that the step has been taken to bring more transparency in the election process as the VVPAT machines would enable the voters to confirm their votes being casted to their choice of candidates.DC said that a 24-hour active helpline has also been launched to facilitate the voters about elections related queries along with National Voter Service Portal (NVSP). He added cVIGIL mobile app can also be downloaded on smart phones to lodge complaints against any unfair political activity or poll code violation which would be addressed within 100 minutes. On this occasion, District Family Judge Ajaib Singh, Additional Sessions Judge Barjinderpal Singh, Squadron Leader HK Singh, ADC (D) Parveen Kumar, Assistant Commissioner Dr. Karamjit Singh, DRO Gagandeep Singh, EO Parvinder Singh, AD Vijay Bhaskar, DSO Jaspreet Singh among huge number of participants were also present.
