Divisional Commissioner Jammu, Sanjeev Verma,
Saturday held meeting with Deputy Commissioners of Jammu Division to review
provisions for Persons with Disabilities and to ensure maximum participation in
upcoming elections. During the meeting, Verma, who has been appointed as
Accessibility Observer for upcoming Lok
Sabha Elections, reviewed the Assured Minimum Facilities (AMFs) in all the
districts of the Jammu division. He directed all the Deputy Commissioners (ROs)
to ensure necessary basic facilities in all polling stations for smooth conduct
of elections in the region. During the meeting, DCs also shared transportation
and other plans for persons with disabilities.The Div Com also directed DCs to
ensure the availability of volunteers to facilitate PwD voters and senior
citizens in the polling station.He asked them to send the AMF details and other
necessary information in a prescribed format so that there could be
arrangements for such voters.A threadbare discussion was held regarding all the
aspects of the election process. The div com stressed on the maximum
participation of persons with disabilities in general election.The meeting was
attended by Deputy Commissioner (RO) Jammu, Ramesh Kumar and other DCs of Jammu
Division through video conferencing.Later, the Divisional Commissioner also
convened a meeting with Air Force officers regarding the requirement of air
sorties for airlifting of voters, and officers in hilly areas for smooth
conduct of elections.The requirement of air sorties was received from DCs of
hilly Districts of the division for the airlift of voters.
