"The movie 'Kesari' brings into the limelight a long lost but nevertheless a glorious chapter in the annals of the military history of the country." These views were expressed by the Senior Congress leader and Sports and Youth Affairs Minister, Punjab, Rana Gurmit Singh Sodhi in a press communique here today.The minister further said that the movie epitomizes the never say die spirit of the Sikhs and their steely resolve to not yield an inch despite heavy odds stacked against them besides adhering to the military dictum of fighting to the last man, last round.Appreciating the cast and crew of the movie, Rana Sodhi said that lead actor Akshay Kumar as well as the makers have done a marvellous job in highlighting the last stand and unparalleled bravery of the 21 soldiers of the 36th Sikh Regiment who on 12th of September in 1897 during the Battle of Saragarhi faced more than 10,000 tribesmen in the then North Western Frontier Province and fought till the last man leading to the enemy casualties in huge proportions. He also said that he would implore upon the director of the movie Anurag Singh to organize a special screening for the youth of Punjab especially the student community in order to enable them to feel a connect with their illustrious past.The minister also added that the Chief Minister Captain Amarinder Singh, himself a military historian of known repute, had recently penned a book chronicling the martyrdom of the soldiers at Saragarhi.The work led to the renewed interest in the subject.Rana Sodhi further elaborated that such a venture deserved to be put on the celluloid so as to let the youth have a peep into the glorious past of ours.
