The auction of liquor vends in the Jalandhar district fetched Rs 484. 45 crore which held  at the jam-packed local Red Cross Bhawan in the presence of the senior officers of the district administration .The Deputy Commissioner Mr Varinder Kumar Sharma started the process of draws by picking up the first slip during the auction held in a transparent manner.In this auction, the Excise department has received 4936 applications for all 80 groups including 2207 applications for the liquor vends within the Municipal Corporation (MC) limit. Likewise, 1004 applications were received for the liquor vends in Jalandhar-I including Phillaur and Goraya and 1725 for Jalandhar-II comprising Adampur, Kartarpur, Bhogpur, Alwalpur, Kala Bakra, Kathar, Nakodar, Shankar, Shahkot, Lohian, Nurmahal, Bilga, Jandiala, Jandusingha, Lambra and others.A number of traders took part in the auction and the entire Bhawan was full with the traders.The officers of the Excise department including Additional Excise and Taxation Commissioner (Excise) Mr Gurtej Singh Joint Excise and Taxation Commissioner Mr. T.S Virk and DETC Mr Jaspinder Singh ensured that the objections, if any, raised by the bidders were removed as soon as at the spot.
