In an attempt to build a gender-balanced world, International Women’s Day was celebrated with the international theme ‘Balance for Better’ at CGC Landran. Working and visionary women hailing from assorted backgrounds took part in panel discussion and experience sharing session on Women at Global Level, Crime against women, Challenges for Working Women and Women health. Punjabi Actor Gurpreet Bhangu, IGP Ropar Range Neeraja Voruvuru, Journalist KanchanVasudev, IVF specialist Dr RimmySingla, and National Athletic Coach Navpreet Kaur , shared their own experiences and boosted the women to think beyond the limitations and build confidence amongst them. On the vibrant occasion, IGP Ropar Range Neeraja Voruvuru introduced ‘Shakti’ application with the students of CGC Landran which is an initiative by Punjab police to protect women by monitoring their moment.  The mobile-based application has a help button which when pressed makes direct calls to 10 registered numbers and safeguard the victims in case of emergency.

While offering a wider perspective of the day to CGC Landran students, IGP Neeraja said, “Let’s keep the rhetoric apart and introspect ourselves so that we are able to create a situation wherein women don’t feel conserved while reporting crime against them”. Punjab Police has empowered women to an extent that the statistics reveal 10% women in Punjab Police unlike national average of 6%.

National Athletic Coach Navpreet Kaur

“It’s remarkable to see Indian women hoisting Indian flag in the outside world after winning International events like Olympics.” She revealed her own success  which has honoured her with the tag of ‘Coach Saheb’ by the men and women of Indian Athletic Teams at National Institute of Sports, Patiala. 

Actress Gurpreet Bhangu

“I believe that rather than calling it as women’s day we should designate it as Humanity Day which can first touch our own conscience” said Bollywood & Punjabi actress Gurpreet Bhangu. She also spoke about the significant role of women in film Industry and encouraged the students of CGC Landran to carry forward a respectful legacy with much grace.  

Journalist KanchanVasudev

“There are times when you get discriminated for being women but eventually you learn to cope up with the situation. This helps you to come out of your own niche and turn out to be a warrior”. She talked about changing scenario in the field of journalism and inspired the students by sharing her struggling days.

IVF specialist Dr RimmySingla

“We don’t need just a single day to celebrate women’s day; rather all 365 days can be celebrated if we optimally utilize our health”.Throwing light on the health of the Indian women she advised the students of CGC Landran to avoid street food and become an early riser.
