With a motive to inspire the girl students to excel in arena of sports, the Surjit Memorial Hockey Society today distributed Sports kits to the students of the Government Girls Senior Secondary School Nehru Garden to mark the International Women’s day.Distributing the kits free of cost to the students teachers of the school including Mrs. Praveen Sharma, wife of Deputy Commissioner Jalandhar, Mrs. Neelam Jyoti, Mrs. Seema Chopra, Mrs. Kanwalpreet and others exhorted the girl students to participate actively in sporting activities. They said that sportspersons were blessed with several qualities and one of them was that they develop a team spirit during the game, which could help them to excel in their lives. They said that sports also play an active role in overall development of the personality of the students.Citing the examples of outstanding players like Arjuna Awardee Mrs. Raj Kaur, Arjuna Awardee Mrs. Arjinder Kaur, Olympian Mrs.Nisha Sharma and International Hockey Coach Mrs. Baljit Kaur who were the product of the school, they said that the students must take inspiration from these players and carve a niche for themselves. They said that the students could bring laurels for their family, state and country by excelling in the field of sports. They also appealed the students that this same spirit should be replicated for constructing a progressive and harmonious society.
