The Punjab State Scheduled Castes Commission has sought a detailed report within 10 days from the police commissioner of Ludhiana, regarding the alleged outrage of modesty and the subsequent suicide committed by an SC girl of Sangowal village in Ludhiana district.Chairperson of Punjab State SC Commission, Mrs. Tejinder Kaur said that after taking strict note of a fresh complaint received in this context by the commission, the Commissioner of Police of Ludhiana has been asked to submit entire report regarding SC girl being compelled to commit suicide due to non registration of a case against the accused and denial of justice to the victim. Commission has sought the said report by March 7, 2019.

It has been reported in the complaint received by the commission that the Scheduled Caste girl and her family of village Sangowal were engaged for cleaning the house of a farmer in the village and to assist in farming. When the concerned girl was returning home after completing the daily chores at the farmer's house on the evening of 19th February, 2019, two boys outraged the modesty of the girl. In the meanwhile, the farmer in whose house the girl and her family worked, helped both the boys flee and threatened to kill the girl and her family. According to the complaint, the SC girl committed suicide on February 22, 2019 due to the said incident and lack of action against the accused.
