World Bank and Korean Team interacts on Solid Waste Management in H.P

The World Bank Team led by Sr. Environment Specialist Pyush Dogra, A.S. Hari Nath, Consultant of the World Bank Dr. Sampat and Team of Experts from Korea Green Growth Trust Fund (KGGTF) led by Dr. Lee Dong Hoon, Chairman of Korea Student Alpine Federation University of Seoul, Korea, Park Min-Sun, Je-Hyun, Deputy Manager ICLCI Geeta Sandal today visited Himachal Pradesh under a technical assistance on Solid Waste Management in Himachal Pradesh.The team along with officers of Department of Environment, Science & Technology visited the Municipal Corporation Shimla, Waste to Energy Plant, NAC Arki on 19th February 2019 and identified the local issues on Municipal Solid Waste.Today the team had half day discussion with Experts of DEST and in afternoon the team met with all the stakeholder organization in a Summit under the Chairmanship of Additional Chief Secretary (Env, S&T) Govt. of H.P. R D Dhiman in order to identify the important issues of State regarding management of Solid Waste, Challenges faced by the State Government and technology transfer, financial resources etc. R.D. Dhiman, said that the areas of collaborations have been identified during the whole day discussions which include  support in developing agro climatic zone based Municipal Solid Waste Management strategy of Himachal Pradesh, support to identify climatic zone wise option for integrated Solid Waste Management, support for technology transfer through successful models/ best practices - optimized models, development of training modules & manual for PRIs/ ULBs, training & capacity building on municipal solid waste  in rural and urban areas and financial assistance for developing small/ micro model solid waste management facilities in the state.

While expressing his views Dhiman said that the experts of Korea and World Bank will closely work with department of Env, S&T and other stake holders  to  find out workable solution for solid waste problem and challenges in Himachal Pradesh.The team also met the Chief Secretary B.K. Aggarwal and briefed about the entry point for assisting the State in effective management strategy for solid wastes both for Rural and Urban areas.Director, Department of Environment, Science & Technology D.C. Rana, said that this team of Korea and the World Bank will undertake technical analysis of Solid Waste Management in three countries Pakistan, Nepal and India in South Asia and in India they will work with Government of Himachal Pradesh through Department of Environment, Science & Technology. He said that this analysis will be completed in next 9 months and thereafter the implementation of different activities will be started including mobilization of funding for Solid Waste Management. He said that the team will visit Baddi Barotiwala Nalagarh Development Authority (BBNDA) tomorrow and Dharamshala afterward.Member Secretary H.P Pollution Control Board Dr. R.K Purthi, Korean Delegates Professor Dr. Lee Dong Hoon and Chang Quao Cho gave presentation on Solid Waste Management on the occasion Principal Chief Conservator Forest Anil Kapil, Director Rural Development Rakesh Kanwar, Director Urban Development Ram Kumar Gautam, Additional Director department of Env, S&T Praveen Gupta and senior officers of the state government participated in the meeting.
