In its commitment to the people of Sultanpur Lodhi to ensure a permanent bridge on Beas in Mand area, the construction work was started on Saturday in the presence of Local MLA Mr Navtej Singh Cheema.Thanking the Punjab Chief Minister Capt Amarinder Singh for releasing the Rs 13 crore for the project, MLA said that it was long pending demand of the people of more than 16 villages of this subdivision. He said that the bridge would facilitate the residents of these villages to travel easily to other parts of the state including farmers, school and college students and others. MLA Sultanpur Lodhi Mr Navtej Singh Cheema said that people of these villages were facing a lot of hardships during the rainy season as the authorities have to dismantle pontoon bridge due to the rise of water level in the river. Mr Cheema further told that people from these remote villages were left with no option but to travel on boats to reach the nearby towns or to return home. Village panchayats felicitated MLA for his concrete efforts for the project. On the occasion, BDPO Mr Pargat Singh, Nagar Council head Mr Vinod Kumar Gupta, SDO Mr Balbir Singh, JE Santokh Singh, Thekedar Sarabjit Singh, Congress leaders Mr Parvinder Singh Pappa, Mr Deepak Dhir, Mr Surjeet Singh, Mr Jagjeet Singh, Mr Aasa Singh, Mr Mukhtiar Singh, Mr. Ravinder Ravi, Mr Paramjit Singh Baupur and others were present.
