The Rogi Kalyan Samiti (RKS) headed by Deputy Commissioner Varinder Kumar Sharma on Friday approved Rs 5 lakh for improving the infrastructure and health facilities in Shaheed Babu Labh Singh Civil Hospital.Presiding over a meeting held in District Administrative Complex, Mr Varinder Kumar Sharma said that Civil Hospital which has sanctioned capacity of 470 beds is one of biggest health institution in the state and Punjab Government is committed to providing best health facilities to the people visiting the hospital. Mr Sharma said that the funds of Rs 5 lakh would be used for buying a new mattress, linen, medicines, consumable and non-consumable items besides new furniture and paint and white-wash of the wards.He asked Civil Hospital Medical Superintendent Dr Jasmeet Kaur Bawa to complete the whole process as soon as possible including the formation of purchase committee, inviting tenders or quotations so that works can be started.The Deputy Commissioner also told Dr Bawa to submit a report of estimates for other pending works to make the Jalandhar Civil Hospital top health facility in the state for which he would even talk with State Health Minister Mr Brahm Mohindra.
Further, Mr Sharma told that the doctors in the civil hospital must recommend only generic medicines to the patients and the availability of such medicines in Jan Aushidhi Centre must be ensured round the clock.Meanwhile, Dr Bawa informed deputy commissioner that the Civil Hospital is going to start Diplomate of National Board (DNB) course for which the first inspection would be held on Feb 20.Diplomate of the National Board is a post-graduate in post-doctoral medical education, under the ministry of health and family welfare.Dr Bawa requested deputy commissioner for the problem of garbage in the civil hospital on which Mr Sharma dialled concern MC official and asked them to ensure lifting of garbage daily.On the occasion, Civil Surgeon Dr Rajesh Kumar Bagga, District Education Officer (secondary) Mr Harinderpal Singh, SMO Dr Kashmiri Lal, Dr Tarlochan Singh and others were present.
