The Punjabi Cultural Council has strongly condemned the Himachal Government’s move to give status to Sanskrit as their second language over Punjabi language. It is a major setback and betrayal to the Punjabis living in State because HP had remained once a part of Punjab State. In a statement issued here, Chairman of Punjabi Cultural Council Harjeet Singh Grewal state awardee said during last decade, the Himachal had accorded due second language status to Punjabi but the present Himachal dispensing has overturned that historical decision and imposed a minority spoken language Sanskrit over the people of the majority linguistic population which is totally against the constitutional values. He said that council is not against to any language but discrimination with Gurumukhi language cannot be tolerated which was inherited by our Sikh saints. He appealed to the Governor and chief minister of HP to revert their decision replacing Sanskrit as second second language over Punjabi.
