In a major breakthrough a team of Excise and Taxation Department of Punjab, led by Sh. Shalin Walia, ACST,Mobile Wing,Chandigarh,today launched an operation at Mohali International Airport and intercepted two Mumbai-based persons carrying diamond studded gold jewellery along with cut and polished diamonds, worth rupees 4.16 crores,without mandatory documents. It was disclosed by the official spokespersons by the Excise and Taxation Department.He said that the persons under investigation, named Neeraj Bakulesh Jhaveri and Rushang Ramesh Mehta, belonging to Rosy Blue(India) Pvt. Ltd ,a Mumbai based company, were traveling from Mumbai to Mohali. They claimed that they were carrying the said articles to show it to a leading jeweler in the city. But they could not produce any documents supporting their claim.The department has issued a notice to the erring persons under Section 129 of SGST/CGST Act. Further investigation is under way . The tax and penalty as per provisions of SGST/CGST Act will be imposed. The Income Tax Authorities are also investigating the matter. The team was comprised of Sh. Ashok Chalotra,S.T.O, Navjot Singh, S.T.O, Ms Bhawna Handa, S.T.O and Sh. Rajnish Batra, S T.I, in coordination with Mohali Police, led by S.H.O, Mohali Airport, Sh. H.S Bal.It is a third major catch by the Mobile Wing, Chandigarh since the implementation of GST Act, wherein gold jewellery and precious gems has been found to be transported in violation of statutory provisions of the laws.
