A series of awareness programmes about the road safety measures and traffic rules were today held across all the districts of Kashmir division as part of 30th road safety week, organized by Motor Vehicle Department with this year’s theme as Sadak Suraksha Jeewan Raksha.At Srinagar emphasizing on massive awareness among people about the road safety measures and traffic rules, Regional Transport Officer Kashmir, Akram-ullahTak stressed for celebrating 30th Road Safety Week to ensure greater participation of general people to accomplish the mission.The Regional Transport Officer Kashmir flagged-off an awareness rally from Indian Institute of Hotel Management (IIHM), Rajbagh in presence of SSP Traffic City, Tahir Gilani, General Manager SRTC (Operations) Farhat Jan, General Manager SRTC (Mechanics) Mushtaq A Chanda and Deputy Director Garages, Malik Tahir.The 30th Road Safety Awareness Week themed that began today comprises of host of awareness functions by way of distribution of pamphlets, awareness for overloading and overcrowding, use of seat belt and helmets, reflective tape and under safety protective devices, wrong side driving and lane driving, traffic signal jumping and using of mobile phones while driving, seminar and workshop for vehicle fitness.The Road Safety Week would also be observed by organizing awareness activities like Rallies, Symposium, Painting Competition of school and college students, Health check-up cum awareness camp of drivers and passenger service vehicles, awareness of motorists at crossings by volunteers and wide publicity through print and electronic media.On the occasion RTO Kashmir said, Traffic Department and Civil administration will be working in sync with Motor Vehicles Department, to make the Road Safety Week a success in terms of awareness regarding traffic rules especially use of seat belts and helmets besides discouraging use of mobile phones while driving among masses to minimize road accidents and violations.30th Road Safety Awareness Week that began today is set to culminate on 10th February 2019.At Pulwama Deputy Commissioner Pulwama G.M Dar today flagged off a rally in connection with 30th Road Safety Week celebrations at General Bus stand Drussu Pulwama.SSP Pulwama, Chief Medical Officer, ARTO, Executive Officer Municipal Committee, besides staff of ARTO Office were present on the occasion.The rally was organized by the ARTO Pulwama under the aegis of Motor Vehicles Department in which a number of sumo vehicle drivers participated. 

The rally passed through various routes including Main Bazar, Circular Road, Tahab road   and other adjacent areas.Speaking on the occasion, DDC said that the aim of rally is to spread awareness among the people regarding traffic rules and regulations. He said wearing helmet, using seat belt, exercising restraint in speed limit, avoiding use of mobile phones may reduce the road accidents drastically. He urged for a movement against rash driving and irrational use of high beam lights during nights.At Kulgam to stimulate Community involvement in promoting road safety awareness and to disseminate information about traffic rules Deputy Commissioner Kulgam Dr Shamim Ahmad Wani flagged- off a Tata maximoo Passenger auto rally from Mini Secretariat with an aim to create awareness among masses. In this rally, around 30 tata Maximoo from different parts of the district participated.While speaking on the occasion DDC emphasized on the importance of road safety and need to disseminate the information about safety among the public and motor vehicle users especially youth. He stressed upon the department to continue the activities on sustain aible basis throughout the year so that the message becomes truly effective. He also appealed the people to follow traffic rules to avoid traffic mess in the town.At Ganderbal to make people more aware of the traffic rules and to persuade them to follow rules while on road, a colourful rally was flagged off by the District Development Commissioner Ganderbal, Dr. Piyush Singla from Mini-Secretariat Ganderbal to Nagbal with an aim to sensitize people about the importance of following traffic rules to prevent road accidents in the district.Speaking on the occasion, District Development Commissioner said that during the week-long programme, people will be encouraged about how to drive on road by organizing variety of programmes related to the road safety.ADDC Ganderbal, Shafqat Iqbal, SSP Ganderbal, Khalil Poswal, ARTO Ganderbal, Sheikh Manzoor, DSP Traffic Ganderbal, Faheem Ali and other officials from district administration were present on the occasion.

At Shopian an awareness programme was inaugurated by Additional District Development Commissioner Shopian Muhammad Saleem Malik today at mini secretariat Arhama Shopian in which drivers and general public participated. On the occasion, Additional District Development Commissioner and other speakers threw light on the key issues of safe driving. Safety stickers, pamphlets and other print material relating to better roads and the safe journey was also distributed.He asked the people to drive on the roads safety with wearing helmets while riding two wheelers and also wear their seat belts while driving the cars or any other vehicles.Later a rally of maxi cabs was flagged-off by ADDC and ARTO Shopian which went through the main market Shopian spreading the message "Sadak Suraksha- Jeevan Raksha".Among others ADC, ACR, DY Superintendent of Police, ARTO, Officials of MVD, Drivers and other concerned were present on the occasion.At Bandipora Deputy Commissioner Bandipora Dr Shahid Iqbal Choudhary inaugurated the Road Safety Week by flagging off a walkathon from Mini-Secretariat Bandipora to the town square Bandipora.During the week the Motor Vehicles Department aims to create awareness among the people about Road Safety and the importance of following the road safety rules.The students were carrying placards with different slogans appealing people to follow road safety rules to avoid accidents.On the occasion Dr Choudhary said the aim of celebrating the week is to sensitize the people especially the drivers about road safety so that people drive sensibly on roads and follow traffic norms   so that accidents are minimized.ARTO BandiporaMoazam Ali said that department is organizing several activities during the week including awareness camps, medical camps for drivers, awareness rallies, Painting and slogan making competition and walkathons through which the people will be sensitized about the road safety.Later the Department organised a medical check-up camp for drivers at New Light Sumo Stand Bandipora wherein the doctors conducted medical checkup of drivers.

At Anantnag In order to sensitize the general public, particularly the drivers regarding the importance of traffic rules for safe driving and ensure mass involvement, a grand function was organised by Motor Vehicle Department in collaboration with Traffic Police Anantnag at DakBunglow Anantnag, where the Additional Deputy Commissioner Anantnag Showkat Ahmad Rather in presence of Additional SP Anantnag, Dy. SP Traffic and ARTO Anantnag flagged off a rally comprising of bikes and other vehicles.Speaking on the occasion, the ADC Anantnag said that organising such programmes is to create mass awareness among the general public and drivers regarding the safe and accident free driving. He added that various kinds of awareness programmes would be held across the district during the week. He stressed upon the MVD, Traffic Police and drivers to coordinate for better driving and safety of the general public on roads.While giving the details of the week-long activities, the ARTO Anantnag Peerzada Shabir Ahmad said that dozens of activities including the free eye checkup and training programmes for commercial drivers, painting competitions in various schools regarding road safety, training of commercial drivers regarding life-saving and first aid techniques by experts, distribution of pamphlets and other awareness programmes will be held during the safety week.At KARGIL acting Chairman and Chief Executive Councilor, LAHDC, Kargil Nassir Hussain Munshi launched the 30th Road Safety Week celebrations at Auditorium Hall Kargil here today.The Safety Week organized by the Motor Vehicle Department Kargil would be featuring an array of programmes focusing on awareness of road safety, traffic rules and prevention of accidents.Councilor Baroo Minjee Sheikh Ghulam Mehdi, Chief Medical Officer (CMO) Kargil Dr Ibrahim Khan, Assistant Regional Transport Officer (ARTO), Kargil Khadim Hussain, Dy Superintendent of Police Headquarter Syed MujahidulHaq, Assistant Director Planning Abdul Hadi, Senior Prosecuting Officer NawangNurboo, representatives of taxi, bus, truck unions and driving institutes besides other concerned officers were present on the occasion.

In his address the Executive Councillor appreciated the efforts of the ARTO Kargil and his team for organizing the Road Safety Week in the district despite chilling cold and subzero weather conditions.Earlier, the ARTO Kargil through a power point presentation briefed about the current scenario of traffic management and road safety measures in the district.At Baramulla a rally was flagged off by Senior Superintendent of Police Baramulla Mir Imtiyaz Hussain in presence of officers of traffic police, district administration and representatives of driving institutions, auto unions, automobile dealers which after passing through different areas of the district culminated at the starting point.Addressing the gathering SSP Baramulla said that Road safety week is a national event aimed at raising public awareness about traffic rules and ultimately to reduce casualties due to road accidents. Millions lose their life and millions get injured in road accidents globally; mainly, due to lack of awareness about traffic rules or a behaviour of flouting them. Therefore, to make people more aware of the traffic rules and to persuade them to follow rules while on road; the Road Safety Week is observed annually, he explained.ARTO Baramulla said that tomorrow an essay competition will be held at Sanctorium college Lalad Sopore in which different colleges and Schools will participate in the competition. The main thrust of holding essay competition will be to provide awareness among the students about the need and urgency for making the journey on  road safer.At Leh, Deputy Commissioner, Leh Avny Lavasa while inaugurating the 30th National Road Safety Week in Leh said that Road safety is becoming an emerging problem in the country which can be reduced by disseminating more and more awareness among the people about traffic rules and regulations.DC urged upon the Motor Vehicles Department to extensively publicize the objectives of National Road Safety Week during the week-long campaign and accentuate people about the need of safe roads travel by applying the traffic rules.Later, the Deputy Commissioner flagged off a rally of vehicles, which went to various places of Leh to carry out the road safety campaign.
