Director Agriculture Kashmir Altaf Aijaz Andrabi today chaired a meeting to discuss effective measures for beating challenges thrown up to agriculture by changing weather scenario and recent snowfall in the valley. Speaking on the occasion, the Director said that global change in weather dynamics is making visible impact on Agriculture scenario in Kashmir. “Weather parameters are globally changing so are the Agriculture operations and strategies. Therefore, in order to get the maximum out of this sector and to be relevant with the market demands and trends at national and international level Agriculture has to be adopted on modern and scientific lines, farmers must acclimatize themselves with the change,” the Director said.He impressed upon the concerned officers and crop experts to ensure their visits to the fields and advise farmers with respect to different preventive measures and modifications in the cultural practices. He further instructed for proper instructions and advisories to be issued to the farmers as per the local requirements and all the efforts must be put into save the crop losses.
Andrabi said that the officers and crop experts should mobilize the field functionaries and advice the farmers to take remedial measures in to save Rabi sown crops from any frost injury or adverse weather conditions.Director Agriculture called upon the officers to adopt proactive approach in reaching out to farmers to ensure speedy deliverance of technical guidance and moral support.Andrabi passed on strict orders for time bound redress of farmer’s grievances, and instructed the officers to achieve the targets of different schemes and programmes on merit basis.The meeting was attended by Joint Director Agriculture Inputs Deepak Kumar Kachroo, Joint Director Extension Choudhary Mohammad Iqbal, Project Coordinator Mushroom, Dy. Director Agriculture Central, Plant Protection Officer, Potato Development Officer and other senior officers of the Kashmir division.
