Rajiv Gandhi National University of Law, Punjab has received financial and administrative approval to conduct Training Courses for Prison Officers from the Bureau of Police Research and Development, Ministry of Home Affairs, Government of India, New Delhi. The Second Training Program i.e. Three-Day BPR&D Sponsored Training Course for Prison Officers on the theme: Discussion on Operational and Administrative Issues of Release with from on Rights and Entitlement of Prisoners has started here at Rajiv Gandhi National University of Law, Punjab Campus on Monday. Senior Prison Officers from Punjab and Himachal Pradesh, Public Prosecutors, Members of District Legal Services Authorities have been registered as participants for the Training Course.Professor (Dr.) Nishtha Jaswal, Vice-Chancellor, Himachal Pradesh National Law University, Shimla was the Chief Guest for the Inaugural Function of the Training Program. Prof. Nishtha interacted with the participants and delivered the Key note address. Prof. Nishtha discussed with the Participants, the topic Prisoner’s Rights under the Constitution of India. Professor (Dr.) Paramjit S. Jaswal, Vice-Chancellor, Rajiv Gandhi National University of Law, Punjabgave the information regarding the role played by BPR&D regarding jail administration and correctional administration. He appreciated the approval given by BPR&D to conduct the training course for Prison Officers, Public Prosecutors, and Members District Legal Services Authorities at Rajiv Gandhi National University of Law, Punjab.

Prof. Jaswal provided the information that Rajiv Gandhi National University of Law, Punjab has received approval to conduct three Training Courses for Prison Officers during the financial year 2018-2019. First of these Programs is BPR&D sponsored One-Day Training Course for Prison Officers on the theme: Supreme Court Directions on Prison Reforms successfully completed on 24th December 2018, Second Training Course for Senior Prison Officers is scheduled on 28-30 January 2019 on the topic Discussion on Operational and Administrative Issues of Release with from on Rights and Entitlement of Prisoners, the third Training Programme (Five Day Programme) is scheduled in March 2019 on the topic: Prisoners’ Rights and Entitlement Law, Policies and Apparatus National and International Perspective an Update. The first two Training Programs are for Senior Officers and the third Training Program is for Junior Officers to be conducted at Rajiv Gandhi National University of Law, Punjab. Prof. Jaswal also interacted with the participants. Prof. (Dr.) Naresh kumar Vats, Registrar RGNUL, Punjab gave the vote of thanks.Professor (Dr.) G.I.S. Sandhu, Former Director/Registrar, RGNUL, Punjab delivered a lecture as subject expert on the topic Human Rights of Prisoners. Sh. Ashish Bansal, CJM-cum-Secretary District Legal Services Authority, Patiala was also among the dignitaries present. He delivered his expert lecture on the topic Rights and Entitlement of Prisoners: With Special Reference to the Role Played by Legal Services Authorities in providing Legal Aid to Prisoners.
