Punjab local bodies, tourism and cultural affairs minister Navjot Singh Sidhu, on Tuesday, announced that the Punjab government has released a grant of Rs. 100 crores for the overall development of Barnala and said that the concerned departments will soon get the money to commence the development projects. Mr. Sidhu said that former MLA Kewal Singh Dhillon took up the problems with him which led to draft a revamp plan for Barnala region. On this occasion, Kewal Singh Dhillon, his son Karan Dhillon and a large number of residents also thanked the minister for the announcement of grants.The cabinet minister said that in order to solve the problem of sewerage in low lying areas in Barnala constituency, Kewal Singh Dhillon had urged to release a grant of Rs 9 crore but we have released Rs.100 crores. Mr. Sidhu said that these funds will be transferred to the concerned departments within a month to enable them to get the work done as soon as possible. He said that in this grant, Rs. 78 crore have been released for water works and sewerage, Rs. 11 crore for roads, 5 crore under the finance commission and Rs. 6 crore have been released for miscellaneous purposes.

S. Sidhu said that the process for acquisition of land for the Kartarpur Sahib Corridor has been initiated and the construction of the corridor would be started soon after getting the requisite clearance from the central government.Mr. Navjot Singh Sidhu said that he was also going to write a letter to the Government of India and Pakistan that no hotel or any other commercial development should be allowed within one kilometer area of the Kartarpur Sahib gurdwara premises.Speaking on the occasion, former MLA Kewal Singh Dhillon said that Barnala is one of the most backward areas of Punjab and no other leader than Chief Minister Captain Amarinder Singh paid heed to the demands of the region. He added that Navjot Singh Sidhu has released a huge amount for the development of the urban areas of Barnala for which they were thankful to the Punjab Government and Mr. Sidhu.

 S. Dhillon said that opening of the Kartarpur Sahib corridor is a matter of celebration for Sikh Sangat and it all happened due to the sincere efforts of Capt. Amarinder Singh and Mr. Navjot Singh Sidhu.On this occasion, Director Local Government Mr. Karnesh Sharma, CEO. PMIDC Ojaye Sharma, OSD Rupinder Sandhu, International Shooter Sumit, DC Barnala Dharam Pal Gupta, SSP Harjeet Singh, ADC (D) Parveen Kumar, Surinder Kaur Balia, District Congress President Rupi Kaur, Makhan Sharma, Dimple Uppli, Sukhjit Kaur Sukhi, EO Barnala Parvinder Singh Bhatti among several others were also present.
