Deputy Commissioner and CEO, LAHDC, Kargil Vikas Kundal today visited Iqbal Mini Hydel Project and took stock of power generation from the project during the winter season.The Deputy Commissioner was accompanied by the Executive Engineer M&RE PDD Altaf Hussain, AEE EPD Vijahat Ali Mir, AEs and other concerned officers.During the visit, the Deputy Commissioner went around various sections of the Hydel Project and inquired from the engineers about the present status of its functioning. The DC was informed that out of the three turbines of 1.25 MW capacity only one unit is presently functional which caters to the power requirements of District Hospital Kargil, BSNL Exchange and Baroo Main area.The concerned engineers informed the DC that efforts are on to restore the project machinery after it stopped due to severe cold last evening. They further informed that the project tail pool and certain machines had got jammed due to ice formation.The engineers said that 3 pumps of 90 HP each have been pressed into service for dewatering of the tail pool and all out efforts are being made to ensure that power is restored by tonight once the machines become fully functional.Meanwhile, the concerned officers informed the DC that that the project could function better if the old governing system is replaced with a new electronic governing system. They said that a DPR for modernization and up gradation of the project is in the final stages.The DC instructed the concerned officers to put in their best efforts to ensure provision of hassle-free power supply to the consumers during the winter season.
