Recalling the stellar role of Women in making India a front runner country in the world, the Deputy Commissioner Jalandhar Mr. Varinder Kumar Sharma today said that women had been instrumental in social-economic progress of the country. Addressing the gathering during a district level seminar organized under ‘Beti Bachao, Beti Padao’ campaign at NHS Hospital here today, the Deputy Commissioner said that iconic women leaders like Mrs. Indira Gandhi, Ms. Kalpana Chawla, Lata Mangeshkar, PT Usha and others had played a key role in shaping the destiny of modern India. Mr. Sharma said that Education has played a major role in women empowerment through which the ladies have been actively participating in social and economic progress of the country. He said though this emerging trend was a matter of great pride and satisfaction for all of us but still a lot of more things need to be done for ensuring safety and security of girl child.The Deputy Commissioner said that the massive efforts for empowering the women need to be encouraged so that India could emerge as a progressive nation.
Mr. Sharma said that women empowerment was all the more important for development of the country and prosperity of its people. He said that this would be really helpful for transforming the destiny of the country in general and that of women in particular.Lauding the role of Health department, NGOs and social activists in spreading the message of Government’s flagship campaign of ‘Beti Bachao, Beti Padhao’ campaign in every nook and corner of the country, the Deputy Commissioner that it has been helpful in creating lot of awareness amongst the people to improve skewing sex ratio. He said that persistent efforts needs to made for saving the girl child and imparting quality education to the girls.On the occasion, the Civil Surgeon Jalandhar Dr. Rajesh Bagga apprised the gathering about the underlying motive behind the ‘Beti Bachao, Beti Padhao’ campaign.On the occasion, District Immunization Officer Dr. Tarsem, Dr. Satish , Dr. Kulwinder Kaur and others were also present. Earlier, Directors of Hospital Dr. Shubhaang Aggarwal, Dr. Naveen Chitkara and Dr. Sandeep Goel welcomed the Deputy Commissioner.
