Chandigarh , 17 Dec 2018

The Aam Aadmi Party on Monday welcomed the decision of Delhi High Court to award life imprisonment to Congress leader Sajjan Kumar in1984 riot case.Addressing the media at Chandigarh, the leader of opposition Harpal Singh Cheema said that it takes very long time to deliver the justice to victim families but the decision of court is satisfactory. Haling the efforts made by AAP leader and senior lawyer H.S. Phoolka in the case, Cheema said that it is the outcome of his struggle of 34 years that those responsible for killing innocent sikhs have to feel the heat.Cheema said that the journey to justice was long and tiring as even after formation of 7 commissions the culprits were roaming freely. He said that had 1984 riot culprits given punishments at early stage, religion or caste based riots happened after that could have avoided.

He demanded that the cases related to people with political background must be taken on priority basis so that they can not be saved by their political bosses using power. Criricizing Congress, BJP and Akali Dal for protecting the culprits, Cheema said that they were provided security by the govt despite their names figured in the FIR. He said that the other leaders of Congress and BJP who are responsible for 1984 riots must also put behind bars.Criticizing Congress leader Salman Khurshid for his statement that the party will challenge the decision in Supreme Court, Cheema said that rather than sacking such leaders Congress is still patronizing them. The head of legal wing Jastej Arora, treasurer Sukhwinder Sukhi, spokesperson Govinder Mittal and Mohali dist. youth president Harman Hundal were also present on the occasion.
