Census statistics plays a vital role for the formation of govt. policies for overall development of nation and only factual statistics could extend the benefit of welfare schemes to eligible beneficiaries. Therefore it is very important to collect census data with utmost care and in timely manner. This was stated by Dr. Abhishek Jain, Director Census Operations and Citizen Registration Punjab, Chandigarh & Himachal Pradesh, Ministry of Home affairs, Govt. of India while presiding over a meeting with officials of district administration regarding census 2021, National Population Register (NPR) & Civil Registration System (CRS).Addressing the meeting he said that information regarding changes in jurisdictions and administrative units after year 2011 should be submitted within week. He also directed the tehsildars to provide updated information regarding changes in the form of maps. He also directed the Municipal Corporation and Municipal Council officials to provide latest updated information about changes related with them. Dr. Jain said that GMADA should also be included for this.Explaining about CRS, Dr. Jain said that it was generally noticed that people obtain death certificate only when they need that, where as registration of birth and death is compulsory.
He said that sometimes due to the non-registration of the birth of girl child a gap comes out in the sex ratio. As such, concerned officials should ensure that registration at the birth of girl child should be done. In this regard, awareness among people should be generated and relevant information from private hospitals should also be collected regarding birth & death record.Dr. Jain said that a report from private hospitals should be sought in time bound manner and surprise visits should also be conducted in these private hospitals. He directed the health department officials to neatly and clearly fill the requisite details in Medical Certification for Cause of Death (MCCD). He directed the concerned officials to complete the pending work related with NPR and also directed officials of social security department to ensure that the work assigned to the anganwari workers regarding the collection of the data.During this Joint Director Census operations Punjab Sh. Ashvani Kumar, Assistant Commissioner (General) Sh. Yashpal sharma, SDM Mohali Sh. Jagdeep Sehgal, District Program Officer Sukhdeep singh, Tehsildar Navpreet singh, Tehsildar Ravinder Bansal along with officials of various other departments were present.
