Chief Secretary urges centre for liberal funds for restoration works

Chief Secretary B.K Agarwal has appealed the government of India to provide liberal financial assistance to the state for restoration works as huge losses has been incurred to the properties during this monsoon season. He was presiding over the meeting with the inter-ministerial team that is on the state visit to assess the losses due to heavy rains and untimely snowfall in the state.The Chief Secretary said that state had difficult terrain and therefore adequate funds were required from the centre to carry restoration and construction works. The state has suffered cumulative losses and damages during the monsoon especially to the roads, bridges, irrigation and drinking water supply schemes and agriculture crops. However, the losses incurred had not been assessed properly and different departments had been directed to assess the actual losses and the report in this regard would be sent to the union government within a week.He urged the inter-ministerial central team to recommend for maximum support from the government of India keeping in view the gravity of losses and damages suffered by the state.

B.K Agarwal thanked the central team for visiting and inspecting the losses incurred due to rains and snowfall in the tribal areas of the state.Additional Chief Secretary, PWD Manisha Nanda apprised that the state government took effective and immediate steps to open roads, restore electricity and water supply as a result of which the people did not face much problems during the time of snowfall and heavy rains. She also detailed the losses incurred to different departments during the monsoon.Joint Secretary of Union Home Ministry and team leader Vivek Bhatia stresses the need to formulate long-term plans for undertaking the work of different developmental projects. He appreciated the efforts of the state government for carrying out restoration works in a very short period.Special Secretary Revenue and Disaster Management D.C Rana detailed about the losses suffered by the state during the monsoon.Additional Chief Secretary Dr. Shrikant Baldi, senior officers of various departments of the state government attended the meeting.
