Shutdown in south Kashmir, thousands attend funeral of LeT Commander

While thousands of people turned up to attend the funeral prayers of Lashkar-e-Toiba district commander Firdous Ahmad at Pulwama, people observed a spontaneous shutdown in south Kashmir on Saturday to mourn the killing of all the six militants at Bijbhera Anantnag.While five other militants were buried yesterday, Firdous was interred at his ancestral graveyard at native Muchpuna village of Pulwama today.Thousands of people from the adjoining and far-off places reached the native village of the slain and participated in his last rites, according to the reports reaching GNS. In all seven rounds of funeral, prayers were held to accommodate the people before he was laid to rest at around 11:30 a.m.He had joined the Lashkar-e-Toiba on May 17 last year and was elevated to the rank of district commander for Pulwama a few months ago by the outfit.Meanwhile, all the south Kashmir districts observed a shutdown to mourn the killings of six militants killed in the gunfight with the government forces at Bijbehara on Friday.Reports said that Anantnag, Kulgam, Shopian and Pulwama observed shut down with all the shops and other business establishments remaining closed and traffic off the roads.A large number of people visited to the residence of the slain militants to offer condolences to the families.Besides Firdous, the militants killed included Azad Ahmed Malik Alias Azad Dada of Arwani Bijbehara, Basit Ahmad Mir of Pushwara Annatnag, Atif Nazar of Waghama, Unais Shafi Bhat of Takiya Maqsood Shah Bijbehara and Shahid Malik of Awantipora affiliated.
