Former Punjab Chief Minister and Congress candidate from Amritsar Capt Amarinder Singh and senior party leader and Amritsar Central MLA OP Soni today rubbished the whispering campaign launched by the BJP and Akali Dal against Mr Soni that he was joining the BJP.Replying to a question about the rumours being spread by the BJP and Akali leaders that Mr Soni was joining the BJP, Capt Amarinder retorted, “this is the classic example of the whispering and disinformation campaign the Akalis and BJP are notorious for”.
He pointed out, Mr Soni was with him since the day he landed here on April 28. “In fact my relationship with Mr Soni goes back to several years and he is my trusted colleague”, Capt Amarinder said, about Soni, while adding, this whispering campaign was yet another ploy, borne out of sheer frustration, by the Akali-BJP to spread disinformation and create confusion and suspicion among party workers.Mr Soni who was also present made it categorically clear that he would be the last man to ever think to leave Congress leave aside joining any other party including BJP. He said, his relationship with Capt Amarinder was not only political but personal as he was like an elder brother to him. “Do you think I will let down and betray my brother when he is fighting a crucial battle?” he asked, while appealing people not to give ear to such rumours.
