105 trucks stranded on Mughal Road due to snowfall, over 140 persons rescued

At least 105 stranded trucks have been stranded near Pir Ki Gali along the Mughal Road since late Thursday night due to snowfall. However, over 140 stranded persons were rescued on Friday.Reports reaching GNS said that following the inclement weather, 105 trucks and 4 passenger vehicles and six private vehicles got stranded between Pir Ki Gali and Poshana during the intervening night of Thursday and Friday.Soon after receiving the information, a police team led by DSP Reyaz Ahmad and SHO Somraj and soldiers of 16 RR reached the spot and launched a rescue operation, reports said adding that the operation was carried out under the overall supervision of SSP Poonch Rajiv Panday.SHO Somraj told GNS that the joint rescue team evacuated 60 persons travelling in 4 passenger vehicles and 6 private vehicles towards safety during night at around 2:00 to 4:00 am.He said the drivers and conductors of the stranded trucks comprising of 80 people were also taken to nearby police post today.Some of the stranded trucks were en-route Jammu and some moving towards Srinagar, he said.“The trucks are still trapped in the area as the weather continues to remain bad,” SHO said adding that authorities have pressed snow clearance machines into service to clear the road.
